It all started…

Nearly three decades ago, Countryside shifted from simply serving a snack to the children to the children becoming responsible for the freshly baked goods. And what a monumental shift it was! Once AYM was launched, we knew a full kitchen was necessary. Since then, children have emersed themselves in a variety of culinary experiences. From a hot breakfast that is facilitated and served daily to a freshly baked snack: the children do it all. Cooking with the class is not only fun but teaches responsibility and good nutrition and provides sensory and tactile learning experiences. It’s also great for math skills such as counting, weighing, measuring, etc. Cooking with young children builds vocabulary and helps with sequencing, following directions, and listening skills. It has genuinely constructed this strong community and formed lasting relationships between students.
